Travel has been at a standstill since the beginning of 2020. But, there’s still no harm in planning your next trip. Whether it be your next work trip as a professional translator or interpreter for meetings while you’re working with a translation company or your next solo backpacking trip, here’s a list of a few places that will leave you completely mesmerized.
Spotted Lake, British Columbia, Canada
Located in the northwest of Osoyoos in the eastern Similkameen Valley of British Columbia, Canada, Spotted Lake is one of the many unusual places in the world that will leave you absolutely mind-blown. The native Okanagan people worship this place and it’s easy to see why they think of it as sacred. When the temperature rises, the water of the lake evaporates, and small mineral ponds are left behind, each of a different color. You can plan a trip to this place and view the lake from Highway 3 near the Osoyoos town, as you cannot trespass on tribal land.
Pamukkale, Turkey
Pamukkale is one of the most remarkable UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Situated in southwest Turkey, Pamukkale is also known as the Cotton Palace, as it is completely white due to the carbonate mineral left by the flowing of thermal spring water. This place is also part of the ancient ruins of Hierapolis. Additionally, you can swim in Pamukkale’s thermal pools, which was originally used as a Roman spa resort. Plan a long trip to Istanbul and make sure to spare a minimum of 2 days to enjoy the serenity of this place at its best.
Lake Hillier, Western Australia
Lake Hillier is a saline lake on the edge of Middle Island, the largest of the islands and islets that make up the Recherche Archipelago off the south coast of Western Australia. It was discovered in 1802 on the largest islands and is notable for its pink color that stays year-round. Scientists believe that the lake is pink is color due to the high salinity combined with the salt-loving algae, Dunaliella salina, and pink bacteria, halobacteria.
The Tianzi Mountains, China
Tianzi is a mountain located in Zhangjiajie in the Hunan province of China. These mountains are incredibly lush at the pinnacles and are often surrounded by mist. You can take a cable car to the Huangshi village and explore a variety of trails to take a look at this breathtaking view. This place is also called the ‘son of heaven’ and was the real inspiration for the floating mountains in the blockbuster movie Avatar.
The Bermuda Triangle, North Atlantic Ocean
Everyone’s heard of the infamous 500,000 square miles also known as the Devil’s Triangle located roughly between Bermuda, Florida and Puerto Rico. The US Coast Guard has disputed many of the myths and mysteries but there still are many conspiracy theories about the area’s unusual magnetic power and the ships, planes and people that have disappeared here.
Socotra Island, Yemen
Socotra was separated from mainland Africa more than six million years ago. The bizarre and ancient twisted dragon’s blood tree and the bulbous bottle tree are not found anywhere else in the world due to its unique biodiversity. Being a part of Yemen, it has suffered a lot of collateral damage from being part of a country that has been at war for over five years, but Socotra itself has never been at war and is considered a very safe place.
Fly Geyser, Nevada, USA
Fly Geyser also known as Fly Ranch Geyser is a small geothermal geyser located on a private land in Washoe County on the edge of Black Rock Desert in Nevada. Created accidently in 1964 after an energy company drilled down into the geothermal waters, the fountain erupts up to five feet high and the resulting mineral build up causes the cone to grow by a few inches each year. The hues of red and green on the cone makes this place worth visiting for the professional translator.
As a professional translator or a conference interpreter you will come across many opportunities that will give you a chance to travel to many national and international locations. Hopefully, traveling to these weird but absolutely breathtaking places will be possible soon. Until then, add these to your list of exotic places to visit to understand how mesmerizing the world is.
