Khmer Translation for Wellness Study
October 2017, Boston MA – Language Connections, a Boston translation and interpreting services provider, often partners with various academic institutions of Public Health providing linguistic services during international conferences and translation of academic content. Recently we were asked to perform English to Khmer translation for content relating to studies on workplace well-being.
Exploring Worker Well-Being
One of Boston’s prominent School’s of Public Health (SPH), our client specializes in the study and implementation of programs aimed at improving major global issues. This recent study focused on the measurement of health and well-being of factory workers. The SPH gave a presentation on the implementation of such research and needed it to be available for native Khmer speakers. As such, we were asked to translate English to Khmer for the text of the presentation focused on measuring well-being in the workplace and exploring gender equality.
English to Khmer Translation Services
For this project, our team was contracted to provide translation services for a presentation by the university’s SPH. Our linguists needed to translate from English to Khmer. The objective was to outline the implementation plan for employee well-being surveys at various workplaces, including factory workers in Cambodia.
English to Khmer translation is less commonly requested. Therefore, selecting a translator who is well-qualified can be challenging, but thanks to our strong network, we were able to find an experienced Cambodian translator and successfully fulfill the request.
Fun Facts About The Khmer Language:
- Khmer is the official language of Cambodia, spoken by about 8 million people around the world, primarily in Asia.
- It shares many features and words with the Thai language as a result of history and geographic proximity.
- Khmer also has the longest alphabet in the world.
Chinese Survey Translation
Alongside the PowerPoint translation services, we also provided simplified Chinese translation for the questionnaires that will be used in the implementation of the SPH’s research in Chinese factories. It is important that this type of translation be culturally adapted and localized. This ensures that the questions are understood by the target audience, and as such their answers are accurate. Many linguistic and cultural factors come into play with these types of questionnaires and must be addressed by a professional translator who is familiar with both cultures.
We look forward to continuing our partnership with our client’s SPH, and helping them translate their research questionnaires into the Khmer language as well.
