Informed Consent Translation for Boston Children’s Progeria Trials
Boston, MA – Language Connections, a translation and interpreting services agency based in Boston, provides life sciences translation services for the Healthcare industry. Among the services we provide are informed consent translation services for clinical trials. One of our regular clients is the Progeria Research Foundation that conducts clinical studies on international patients suffering from Progeria, Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome (Progeria or HGPS) is a rare, fatal genetic condition characterized by an appearance of accelerated aging in children. Children with Progeria begin to display characteristics of the disease at around 18-24 months of age, and have an average life span of 14 years.
The Progeria Research Foundation is an organization dedicated to finding a cure for patients who suffer from this early aging disease. After identifying the genetic mutation, the first experimental treatment, Lonafarnib, was tested in clinical trials. Twenty eight children from 16 countries have participated in the study over a period of 2 1/2 years, during which time the children traveled to Boston every four months for treatment and follow up visits. Boston Children’s Hospital, in conjunction with the Progeria Research Foundation, is one of the clinical sites conducting studies on patients affected by the disease. Enrolled in the trials is a linguistically diverse subject population which requires multilingual translation of informed consent forms into the native patients’ languages.
Informed Consent Translation Services
For the initial phase of the study, Language Connections translated several documents including Food Dietary Instructions, Medication Teaching Sheets, and Efficacy Reports. We translated and culturally adapted the forms into the 16 following languages:
German | Korean | Spanish | Bulgarian |
Hindi | Marathi | Tagalog | Kannada |
Italian | Portuguese (Brazil) | Telugu | Swahili |
Japanese | Russian | Urdu | Hebrew |
As a language service provider for the Progeria trials on a continued basis, we were also asked to translate Patient Informed Consent forms for another set of participants into 13 different languages, including Arabic, Turkish, Japanese, Danish, Italian, Spanish, Dutch, Polish, Korean, Portuguese, German, Urdu, and Hindi.
Our team of translators are also localization experts, an absolute requirement in the translation and cultural adaption of critical regulatory documents such as informed consent forms. The team with whom we worked with at the Progeria Research Foundation is pleased with the quality of the translations we provide, and we look forward to a continued partnership.
