Haitian Creole to English Video Subtitling for yogaHOPE
Boston, MA December 2017 – Language Connections is a professional translation and interpreting services agency based in Boston. One of the core services we offer is transcription and translation of videos intended for multilingual audiences.
We recently worked on a project for one of our clients that required Haitian Creole to English translation services, as well as transcription services and video subtitling services. The project is part of an effort by a local, non-profit organization, yogaHOPE, focused on methods to improve the mental and emotional health of women worldwide. Their efforts focus especially on those that are recovering from trauma and PTSD.
Promoting Women’s Mental Health
The founder of yogaHOPE, Sue Jones, is responsible for developing an integrative mind-body method aimed at healing trauma called TIMBo (Trauma Informed Mind Body). This method is designed specifically to allow women who have experienced trauma to overcome its inhibiting effects, while helping others by building compassion and resilience.
yogaHOPE partners with organizations in multiple countries, including Haiti, Iran, and Kenya, to bring their method to women in marginalized communities. The objective is to train local women who have experienced trauma as facilitators to allow them to reach out and work with the community.
Haitian Creole to English Video Subtitling Services
To help yogaHOPE with analyzing the success and effectiveness of their programs, we were asked to provide translation and subtitles for a video taken during an interview with a facilitator in Port au Prince, Haiti.
The interview was conducted in Haitian Creole and needed to be made available to English speaking audiences in the United States.
The content of the video was sensitive in nature, as it dealt with topics relating to mental health and trauma. As such our translators needed to be aware of the cultural ideas and stigmas surrounding mental health in both the Haitian culture and western culture to translate appropriately.
How Do You Provide Translated Subtitles for Videos?
In order to translate and provide subtitles for a video, the audio must first be transcribed from the original source language. From there, the transcribed text can be translated for re-insertion into the video as subtitles. Our team of Haitian Creole translators transcribed the video audio into Haitian Creole.
Our linguists took the transcribed text and provided a Haitian Creole translation to English. Once the translation was edited and reviewed, it was inserted into the video appropriately so that visual frames and oral speech correlated exactly with the translated text.
Our team of linguists is highly experienced in translation and subtitling, and we were able to deliver the subtitled video to our client successfully.
