Japanese Interpreting Service for Japan’s Former PM Speech on the Nuclear Disaster
The former Prime Minister of Japan, Naoto Kan, and his delegation recently visited the U.S. to attend a meeting organized by Green Cross International dedicated to nuclear energy and the consequences of the Fukushima nuclear disaster. Green Cross International is a global, non-profit NGO working to address global challenges such as those that affect the environment. Mr. Kan was prime minister at the time of the nuclear disaster at Fukushima power plant on March 11, 2011 triggered by a massive earthquake and tsunami.
Mr. Kan met with several senators and political figures in Washington D.C. throughout his two- day visit in the U.S. Language Connections was responsible for facilitating various small group discussions attended by the former Prime Minister. Our Japanese interpreter escorted Mr. Kan during these discussions to ensure that communication was not compromised at all times.
We also provided highly skilled Japanese simultaneous interpreters as well as portable interpreting equipment during official speeches at the National Press Club given by Mr. Kan and other expert leaders. The former Prime Minister’s speech, “Five Years After Fukushima: Implications for Japan’s Energy and Socio-Economic Future”, emphasized his view that the accident is not over.
Initially the event was scheduled to take place in the Capitol, but due to the government buildings shut-down caused by the blizzard in the D.C. area, the venue for the official presentations had to be changed overnight. Language Connections was able to accommodate this last minute change leaving the client grateful,
