Language Connections recently provided translating services for a respected New England college. Like all higher education institutions, they have created outreach materials for international and minority students.  They entrusted us, as their translation company, with making these materials accessible to Spanish-speaking students from around the world.

Creating a diverse student body is incredibly important to the success of a university. Meeting people of different backgrounds while in college provides a learning experience that goes beyond the classroom and builds cultural sensitivity. In order to attract a more ethnically and economically diverse population, colleges must effectively communicate with these communities, using their language at their levels.  Hence a need for nuanced, professional translation services. When this premier New England college requested our help in translating a financial aid brochure from English to Spanish, we were happy to fulfill their request for business translation services.

For this project, we provided the full translation procedure. First, we took the brochure file and prepared it for translation by making sure that we chose a professional translator familiar with the language of the education industry and the level of language that would be appealing to readers of all education levels or socio-economic backgrounds. Finding a translator with this background limited the possibility of mistakes and ensured an accurate translation. Next, our team translated the brochure from Spanish into English. Spanish dialects naturally vary in vocabulary and grammatical structure, sometimes making it difficult for different Spanish language groups to communicate. Because of this, translating the brochure into a neutral Spanish was imperative. Finally, to complete the process, we offered desktop publishing services to reset the new translations into the old format.  Even when the text expanded or contracted, we laid out the brochure so it looked the same as its English counterpart.  Additionally, we made the brochure accessible on their website. As the online version of the brochure contained links to the client’s website, we were careful to add back these links.
