Translation and Spanish Subtitling Services for Lovin’ Spoonfuls
Boston, MA November 2016 – Language Connections, a translation and interpreting services agency based in Boston, regularly provides translation services to Lovin’ Spoonfuls, a non-profit organization in the Boston area. This organization’s focus is to help bring healthy food, which would otherwise be wasted by local grocery stores no longer selling it, to those in the community that need it most. We at Language Connections are proud to do our part to help this cause by providing our professional translation and Spanish subtitling services.
Our work in the past has primarily involved translating recipe cards from English into the native languages of dominant immigrant groups in the Boston area, namely providing Spanish translation, Mandarin Chinese translation, Brazilian Portuguese translation and Haitian French Creole translation. These recipe cards are designed to accompany food items, namely vegetables, distributed by Lovin’ Spoonfuls to immigrant communities with limited English proficiency. Recently, however, we were asked to provide translation and subtitling services.
Spanish Subtitling Services
In one of our latest projects, our client Lovin’ Spoonfuls requested that we provide Spanish subtitling services and translation for four English language videos to be used on their website. The videos are recordings of local Boston chefs giving cooking instructions for recipients of Lovin’ Spoonfuls’ food delivery services.Video subtitling services involve a multi-step process – first all of the verbal content on the videos is transcribed into text. The transcribed text is then translated by our professional translators into the required language(s). One of the major challenges is to keep the translated texts the same length as the source language. For this particular project, since the Spanish translation would otherwise be lengthier than the original English text, some paraphrasing and other special techniques had to be implemented. Following review of the Spanish translation, the text is then inserted into the video as subtitles. One of the final steps is to ensure that the timing of the subtitles corresponds exactly with the video script/images.
