The MIT Media Lab

The MIT Media Lab is a unique educational cooperation that combines the expertise of product designers, nanotechnologists, data-visualization experts, industry researchers, and pioneers of computer interfaces to bring innovative technical solutions to daily activities. We regularly provide simultaneous interpreting services for MIT Media Lab events, including at their quarterly member meetings.

These meetings are composed of rather complex, highly technical topics covering cutting edge innovations across many different areas, and are attended by global experts from a variety of different industries. For this past fall’s members meeting, we were asked to provide Chinese, Japanese, and English interpreters.

The MIT Media Lab member meeting included discussions, presentations, and live demonstrations of new technology. Our English to Mandarin Chinese and Japanese interpreting teams facilitated over the course of the meeting, ensuring that non-English speaking participants were able to participate in and follow the discussions.

In order to accommodate the different topics of discussion, our conference translators needed to have a background in various technical topics. To ensure this, we vet all of our interpreters before they are assigned to a particular project. This vetting includes a language degree and accreditation check, a thorough background check into previous experience in related industries, and of course language fluency.

Along with the three conference interpreting teams, we provided technical support and simultaneous translation equipment, including soundproof interpreters booths and receivers.
