Russian Subtitles and Translation of Documentary on Svetlana Boym

In a recent project, we provided subtitling and translation services of a one-hour documentary film created by Judith Wechsler. The film honors the life of a Russian immigrant and professor of Slavic and Comparative Literature at Harvard University.
As the film was being adapted for Russian viewers, Russian subtitles were needed for the audio.
Who Was Svetlana Boym?
The documentary, Svetlana Boym: Exile and Imagination, is a tribute to a Russian émigré (Svetlana Boym) from Leningrad, modern-day St. Petersburg, who became a professor at Harvard University and prematurely died of cancer in 2015. Her life story is representative of the Russian-Jewish emigration of the 1970s.
The film contains personal interviews and includes photographs from her childhood which bring the viewer closer to understanding the life of this interesting woman who was not only a Harvard professor but also a media artist, playwright and novelist. The film was created by our client, Judith Wechsler Inc, who asked us to provide the Russian subtitling.
Russian Subtitle Services
Our role in the project was to provide translation and subtitling services from English to Russian so that Russian speakers viewing the documentary have the option of reading the subtitles in their native language while hearing the English narration.
The film was produced as a DVD with the subtitle option*. Language Connections’ project manager worked closely with both the translator and the client, to ensure that the Russian subtitles matched the correct frame in the film and corresponded to the narration in English throughout the documentary.
