Remote Simultaneous Interpretation for a Prestigious Graduate School

 

Language Connections recently provided remote simultaneous interpretation for a lecture at a prestigious design school. Through some creative technical solutions, we provided remote interpreting services that kept the event under budget, utilized the ideal interpreter for the event, and retained the in-person interpretation experience.

 

Remote Simultaneous Interpretation in German

For this event, Language Connections interpreted a lecture being delivered in German into English. Because the lecture involved complex architectural theories and vocabulary, an interpreter with a very specialized background and linguistic skills had to be hired for the job. Unfortunately, no qualified interpreter could be found locally. Language Connections reached out to our deep, global network and secured an interpreter from another part of the US who spoke German and was familiar with the topic.

 

To fit within the client’s budgetary constraints, we connected the interpreter remotely.  This allowed the design school to avoid travel and accommodation costs.  Language Connections sent a small tech team to the event site to capture video and audio of the lecture in real time for the interpreter (similar in part to the way we perform video remote interpreting services). The interpreter then used a simultaneous interpretation platform that piped his words into the usual headsets that the audience would wear.  Our on-site team ensured that there were no technical difficulties and that audience members were able to properly hear the interpreter through their headsets without interruption.

 

Most importantly, Language Connections provided a remote interpreting experience that felt no different from on-site interpretation.  Even though this method was less expensive for the client, we still used high performance technology and supplied a strong on-site team. As a result, the event organizers were able to put on a great event without paying the price for an on-site interpreter.
