Portable Interpreting Equipment for MIT-Sberbank

April 2017 – Boston, MA – Language Connections, a Boston-based translation and interpreting services agency, provides linguistic services for many different academic institutions. In a recent project, our team of interpreters provided linguistic support during an executive education program hosted by one of our regular clients for Higher Education translation services, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

The department of MIT Professional Education requested portable interpreting equipment for a highly technical, 5-day program designed for executives of Sperbank, Russia’s largest bank.

MIT Professional Education regularly provides continuing education courses for science, engineering, and technology professionals. This particular event, entitled “Artificial Intelligence and Deep Machine Learning”, was highly technical in nature and required a high level of expertise in the subject matter by the simultaneous interpreters, as well as a fully functioning equipment set-up to ensure constant communication.

Providing Portable Interpreting Equipment

Language Connections was responsible for providing linguistic support including portable interpreting equipment like soundproof interpreting booths for the Russian simultaneous interpreters, and individual headsets and receivers for all non-English speaking participants attending the program. Our technicians and project manager worked closely with the event organizers to ensure that everything was in place well ahead of the lecture sessions so that there were no unnecessary delays or interruptions during the course of the program.

There are many different options when selecting portable interpreting equipment. Perhaps the most recognizable pieces are the soundproof interpreting booths – allowing interpreters to sit in the actual room with the presenter and interpret, without disrupting the flow of conversation. These are used during simultaneous interpretation.
