Multilingual Interpreter for Tesla
August 2017, Boston MA – Language Connections, a translation services and interpreting agency based in Boston, has years of experience providing customized interpreting services for all types of international events. Recently we had a request from a major player in advanced technology, Tesla.
Earlier this summer, Tesla hosted employees from China and Japan in their Nevada facilities during which time they required one, multilingual interpreter for three different languages to facilitate during their visit. As the company has numerous international store locations for their vehicles, representative engineers came from China and Japan to work with the Tesla team in the Reno, Nevada site.
What is Tesla?
The California-based company founded by Elon Musk, formerly known as Tesla Motors, is a major automaker, energy storage company and solar panel manufacturer known worldwide for the creation of the first electric car to reach the market. The overall goal of the company is to transition both automobiles and day to day life to relying on sustainable energies.
During the course of their extended stay, the engineers required our interpreting services in order to effectively communicate with the local staff on site.
Japanese and Chinese Interpreter Services for Tesla
Tesla requested a sole, multilingual interpreter over the period of a month during which the Chinese and Japanese engineers worked in the Reno site. This meant our interpreter needed to be proficient in all three languages – Chinese, Japanese and English. Usually when providing English to Chinese or English to Japanese Interpretation, we choose one Chinese interpreter and one Japanese interpreter to provide services.
This is due to the fact that professional interpreters generally work in language pairs, interpreting from their native language into another target language, and visa versa. The work of an interpreter is intensive, and as such usually one interpreter will handle one language pair. This is not always the case however, as is seen with our interpreter for Tesla.
An added challenge for this project was the fact that the interpreter needed to be able to relay information from and into each of the three at any given moment.
We selected from our database of qualified interpreters knowledgeable in the subject matter, as well as fluent in English to Chinese and English to Japanese interpreting (and visa versa). Thanks to the breadth of the linguists we work with, were able to ensure that communication over the multiple week visit by the engineers was smooth using only one professional Chinese and Japanese multilingual interpreter.
