Interpreting Services Provided for a Prestigious Educational Institution

Boston, MA – Language Connections is one of the oldest Boston-based interpretation and translation services companies. We recently provided our interpreting services to a professional education program run by a prestigious Boston based educational institution. This project required us to provide full scale interpreting services, including two pairs of interpreters with highly academic backgrounds and two full interpreting booths with headsets.

What do Interpreting Services Entail?

This recent project required providing interpreting services for a professional education program created by a local prestigious educational institution. The professional education program featured guest speakers who taught executive education seminars and spoke about management tactics for companies based abroad. This program was given to two international companies, a Spain-based company and a Portugal-based company. This program was held for two days and had 50 participants total.

We provided four interpreters for the event (two Spanish and two Portuguese) to translate the speakers’ lectures from English to these two languages. The interpreters were provided with two full, separate interpreting booths. We also provided the program with interpreting equipment such as transmitters, interpreter consoles, and headphones in order to make the interpreting process seamless for the audience.

There are three different modes of conference interpreting. The interpretation supplied by the four interpreters for this event was simultaneous interpreting. It entails interpreting the content at the same time that it’s being delivered by the speaker. This type of interpreting is often used for large presentations or lectures. Simultaneous interpreting is highly taxing, so we provide multiple interpreters that can alternate every 30 to 60 minutes in order to alleviate this. This particular project also presented an additional complexity, as we had to find interpreters who not only had the skill of interpreting simultaneously, but also understood the specific industry they were presenting for. The talks that were given in the event included lectures on the future of the customer, the future of technology in retail, block-chain, and digital business models.  These talks all have very specific vocabulary of their own and we had to make sure the interpreters were well-versed in it.

To excel at this project, we needed to overcome the complexities that come along with simultaneously interpreting large lectures in two different languages.
