French Conference Interpreting for World Bank
July 2017, Boston MA – Language Connections, a Boston interpretation and translation services agency, works regularly with agencies to provide international development translation services and interpreting for conferences and events. In a recent project we partnered with another language service provider that requested our conference interpreting services for a World Bank workshop hosted at the Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
What is the World Bank
The World Bank is an international organization supplying financial and technical aid to developing countries. They have two main objectives:
- End extreme poverty by 2030 – decreasing the amount of people living on $1.90 a day to 3% or less.
- Promote the income growth of the bottom 40% of every country by 2030
The World Bank At WPI
The World Bank event at WPI, Mathematics and Science for Schools in Sub-Saharan Africa: A World Bank Initiative to Improve Student Learning in Africa, brought together senior managers from the Global Education Practice and the Africa Region; and World Bank Education Task Team Leaders for participating African countries.
The goal of the initiative is to improve mathematics and science learning outcomes in primary and secondary education, essential in strengthening scientific and technological advances in an effort to improve economic and social development in sub-Saharan African countries.
French Conference Interpreting Services
We provided French simultaneous interpretation during the course of the 2-day conference and 2-week workshop that took place at the Worcester Polytechnic Institute. The workshop also required that we supply a soundproof interpreter booth and receivers for all attendees that needed interpretation into French.
Simultaneous interpretation is the ideal mode when interpreting for international conferences due to it’s nature of being non-intrusive to the flow of conversation. Because it happens in real-time, interpreters need to be comfortable not only with their language pair, but also with the nature of the language.
Among the topics covered during the workshop were International Best Practices, Science and Engineering, and Robotics Modules. Therefore, our French conference interpreting team needed to have a background in science and engineering, as well as the African region to ensure the utmost accuracy.
