Chinese Interpreter for a Public Transportation Training

Finding the Right Chinese Interpreter
Language Connections has a deep network to search for a Chinese interpreter, but there were several specifications that the public transportation company needed us to meet. The first challenge was that they only wanted to hire one Chinese interpreter for a full day of training. Outside the norm, as projects like this are often staffed by a pair of interpreters. Providing interpretation services can be exhausting, so having a team of two allows the interpreters to switch off and take breaks. Having a pair of interpreters is also especially advantageous during an event like a training. It can allow for one interpreter to handle the teacher’s speech, while leaving the other interpreter to handle any questions on the side. For this training, Language Connections needed to find one Chinese interpreter with the confidence to handle the whole day by him or herself.
The second challenge in this project was finding a Chinese interpreter who had the strong technical background to understand the material. This was especially imperative because, since the material is considered confidential, the interpreter would not get to study it prior to the day of the training. Thus, he or she would have to be able to learn the material on the fly with the trainees and interpret flawlessly.
