Boston, MA – March 2017 – Language Connections, a translation and professional interpreter company, has partnered with IHS Markit for several consecutive years to provide interpreting services during the annual IHS CERAWeek Energy Conference. This year we provided Spanish and Japanese simultaneous conference interpreting services and interpretation equipment throughout the course of the 5-day program in Houston, TX from March 6-10th. IHS CERAWeek 2017 Conference, “Pace of Change: Building a New Energy Future”, focused primarily on the future of the global energy community.
IHS Markit is a world leader in information, analytics and expertise focused on bringing solutions for major global industries and markets. The IHS CERAWeek Conference is among the company’s major events. The IHS CERAWeek (CERA = Cambridge Energy Research Association) Conference brings together energy experts, political leaders and top IHS analysts from around the world. It is considered one of the largest and most important conferences in the field of energy, encompassing oil, gas, power, and coal markets worldwide. As such, not only are specialized, simultaneous conference interpreting services needed, but a specified knowledge of energy sector translation is as well.
Our simultaneous conference interpreting services covered topics that ranged from the future of energy sources, to oil and gas leadership. This demanded a great deal of expertise and background in the subject matter from our interpreters. Our Japanese simultaneous interpreters facilitated during several discussions, including a talk by Keisuke Kuroki, Executive Vice President of Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation (JOGMEC), who spoke about Investing in an Uncertain Energy Future, and Yuji Kakimi, President of JERA Co., who gave a presentation entitled “Global LNG Future.”
Our Spanish interpreters facilitated for numerous speakers over the course of the events. These included Gustavo Hernández, Director of Resources, Reserves and Associations at PEMEX Exploration and Production, as well as Orlando Velandia, President of the Agencia Nacional de Hidrocarburos (ANH). Both Mr. Hernández and Mr. Velandia participated in discussions on the expansion of energy resources in Latin America.
Another group of presenters including Carlos Pascual, Senior Vice President of IHS Markit, and José Antonio González Anaya, Chief Executive Officer of PEMEX, conducted a dialogue on Oil and Gas leadership. César Emiliano Hernández Ochoa, Deputy Secretary of Energy for Electricity Ministry of Energy of Mexico, and Doris Capurro, President & CEO LUFT Energia, were among those involved in a discussion on renewable energy in Latin America.
Ensuring smooth communication between attendees and participants during the program is absolutely crucial to the success of such an event. This required a great deal of planning and coordination by our interpreters and project managers months before the conference. Our technicians were also on-site before and during the events, to set up and distribute necessary interpretation equipment. This must be done according to a strict schedule to ensure the equipment is delivered to the appropriate locations well in advance of any presentations or discussions.
