MEDICAL INTERPRETER TRAINING PROGRAM in Boston

Fundamentals of Medical Interpretation is a 60-hour training course that was developed to enable participants to become competent medical interpreters. The course introduces participants to interpreter roles and skills, interpreter ethics, and medical terminology in both English and the target language.

Anatomy and physiology is taught by an experienced instructor who is a clinician. Language coaching and role-plays in the target language are offered by experienced interpreters who are native speakers of the target language.

 

We are accepting applications for our 60 hour 7-week WINTER 2013 Medical Interpreter Training Session, that begins on January 9, 2013 and ends on February 23, 2013.

 Deadline for Registration: December 22nd, 2012. Since space in the training program is limited and is filling up quickly,  we recommend early registration. Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until the course is full.

 

Schedule:

The course meets twice a week:

Wednesdays (6.30 pm – 9.30 pm) and 

Saturdays (9.30 am – 4.00 pm).

 

Languages:

The course is offered in SpanishPortugueseHaitian CreoleMandarin ChineseArabic and Russian.

Not every language is offered at a specific session.

We require a minimum of five participants in a language group in order to offer the course in that language.

Who Should Attend:
- Bilingual individuals interested in becoming medical interpreters.

- Bilingual health care staff and volunteers who wish to improve their skills and increase their medical terminology;


Pre-Test:
To be accepted into the program, applicants must pass an Oral Language Assessment Pre-Test
and demonstrate fluency and literacy skills in English and the target language.



In order to be considered for admission you must:
- Be bilingual in English and another language.

· Pass the Language Assessment Test with a grade of 75 or higher.
- Complete and mail the signed Application Form with a check for $50 (non-refundable registration fee) to:

Course fee:
If accepted, participants are required to submit a $830.00 course fee and signed Student Participation Agreement prior to the first class.


Entrance Criteria:

Training participants must meet all of the following pre-requisites in order to participate in the training program:


- High school diploma or equivalency;
- Oral proficiency in English and the target language (to be determined during screening interview);
- Ability to read and write at advanced level in target language;
- Successful completion of language assessment test;
