Telkonet, INC., Germantown, Maryland

Smart buildings depend on smart language translation

Telkonet, Inc. is a fast-growing U.S. company providing leading-edge energy management, digital video surveillance, and high-speed Internet systems to thousands of commercial facilities throughout the U.S., Europe, Asia, and Latin America.

Telkonet recognized early that its market lay as much outside the United States as within it - by 2005, rising energy prices and dramatic energy conservation incentives were in play across Europe and Asia, providing the perfect backdrop for installation of Telkonet's advanced energy management systems. The company knew that to capture these international opportunities and to sustain them, it needed an expert language partner as much as it needed sales partners.

After a thorough evaluation of quality, reliability, and efficiency in multi- language translation, Telkonet chose Language Connections as its translation partner. Language Connections was established over many years in the markets Telkonet sought to develop immediately, and had the capability to serve the company as it grew into new markets around the world.

Language Connections translates a full range of written communications supporting sales, installation, and service of Telkonet products in major European and Asian markets. Projects include the translation of legal documents, marketing materials, installation manuals, and the localization of Telkonet's website.

When time-to-international-market matters, Telkonet knows that Language Connections can deliver. And both companies know that even smart buildings require a human touch.

Gore Desing Completions, San Antonio, Texas

Unprecedented GLOBAL Demand Requires Fast And Diplomatic Translation Turnaround

Putting advanced technology in the sky for heads-of-state, international executives, and private individuals is the work of Gore Design Completions and Language Connections.

In recent years, particularly as a reaction to increased airline security since 2001, the demand for large-cabin, technology-rich executive aircraft has grown at more than 30% per year, an unprecedented rate for the industry. Gore Design Completions in San Antonio is one of the very few companies in the world equipped to install or refurbish these large airplanes to the exacting specifications of high-profile customers in various markets, including the traditional markets of Europe and the Middle East, and the emerging markets of China, Russia, and Africa.

Knowing that deep cultural understanding and comprehensive language fluency is central to the high-stakes projects the company undertakes, Gore Design turned to Language Connections. Language Connections works with Gore Design to ensure that every financial, logistical and design detail is communicated to the international client in his own language, whatever language that may be, facilitating decision-making, relationship building, and ultimate client satisfaction.

Together, Language Connections and Gore Design work in a high-pressure environment, under tight deadlines, to secure and implement these international business deals. In one instance, Language Connections provided a last-minute French translation which proved invaluable in face-to-face negotiations. In another case, we translated a contract into Russian in less than one business day allowing Gore Design to close the contract expeditiously.

Gore Design Completions knows that we are standing by at all times to be their global communicator. No job is too small or too large - no deadline is too tight - we'll get it done.

Frommer Lawrence & Haug LLP

On the afternoon of July 3rd, Frommer Lawrence & Haug LLP contacted us with a request for a Spanish-to-English translation of a biochemistry patent presentation. To make the deadline and sidestep the 4th of July delay, we had to locate and hire biochemical experts outside of the US. Each file of the presentation went into editing immediately after its translation, so as to give the editors a chance to provide feedback that could be incorporated into translation of the remaining files. Simultaneous translating and editing dramatically increased efficiency and shortened the timeline, despite requiring more hours of project management. On July 16th, we delivered the presentation (a total of 36,000 words) translated, edited, proofread, and formatted with captions, legends and graphs.

Leboeuf, Lamb, Greene, and MCRae

At the end of the workday on July 23rd, 2007, the Russia-based offices of LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene, and McRae sent us a multi-party agreement for providing electricity to the wholesale market, which they needed translated into English the morning of their following business day. In a matter of hours, the time difference between Russia and the United States working to our advantage, we assembled a team of skilled linguists to translate and edit this highly technical text. As midnight rolled around, our project managers were reviewing the document, delivered to LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene, and McRae before they stepped into their office on July 24th.

Parexel International, a Leading CRO

Seven years ago, Language Connections began its collaboration with Parexel International, a leading CRO. We began by translating numerous instructional manuals and other supplementary materials complementing Parexel's Interactive Voice Response Systems.

Later, we developed a comprehensive solution for conducting multilingual over-the-phone medical surveys.

The multi-component process involved providing translation and editing of scripts; auditioning and hiring professional voice talent; recording the scripts in the languages of choice; providing on-demand telephone interpreting; and making available continual and reliable project management around the clock for this open-ended project. We also created standardized terminology in order to ensure consistency and repeatability in all surveys.

Language Connections is providing Parexel with this combination of services on a continual basis, using the same teams of translators and editors to ensure continuity and a stable knowledge base. We have been told that our flexibility and versatility, two qualities that we infuse into all of our work, are especially important to Parexel in this project and in our ongoing relationship.

New Pharmaceutical Client

Early in a new relationship, a pharmaceutical client asked for translation of 2 clinical trials (a total of 45,000 words) into Polish delivered in 8 business days. Impossible?

Not if you work with Language Connections...

Although industry metrics are 2500 words per day per translator, we devised a solution to conquer 45,000 Polish words in just 8 days.

First, we invested one full day in selecting available talent and planning project workflow. We established two dedicated teams in two time zones to work consecutively day after day, including the weekend, using translation-memory tools. This system boosted our output to 5000 words per day, and by using the weekend we had 9 days to finish. We delivered both files on time, translated and formatted, using the appropriate vocabulary and nuance.
