Founder and President
A veteran translator and U.S. State Department interpreter with years of experience in international business, Leo founded Language Connections in 1993. Over the years the company grew into a multi-service translation and interpreting agency with a capacity for handling large contracts.
Currently, Language Connections serves clients and their target audiences in more than 100 languages: it translates and localizes marketing, technical, medical and legal materials to help companies enter international markets, provides interpreters for conferences and high-level meetings in all parts of the globe, and collaborates with medical and charitable organizations both nationally and worldwide.
Leo’s multifaceted educational background in engineering, business administration and linguistics equips him with a unique understanding of his clients’ perspectives and requirements. Respected for his integrity, competence and forthright business practices, Leo demands exceptional attention to client needs from his linguists and staff.
Leo has been a member of the American Translators Association since 1996 and a Board Member of the US-Russia Chamber of Commerce of New England since 2005.
Senior Project Manager
Frédérique joined Language Connections as a Project Manager in 2006. She handles multilingual projects for pharmaceutical clients and time-sensitive materials for clients in the defense and health industries. Her extensive experience in translation and localization enables Frédérique to capably handle complex projects that involve more than 90 languages. Her work in Europe and the United States has provided her with an excellent insight on people and culture.
Frédérique studied finance and international trade in France, where she was born and raised. Subsequently she worked as a French translator, Technical Writer, Software Localization Specialist, Localization Project Coordinator, and Quality Assurance Specialist, both on the client and the agency side. Her strong track record demonstrates her commitment to seeing a project through from beginning to end, assuring excellence and timely delivery.
Frédérique lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts and enjoys spending time with her young son and cooking crêpe dinners for friends. A native French speaker, she is fluent in English and has some knowledge of Spanish, German and Italian.
Senior Project Manager
Kirill Grushko joined Language Connections in 2010. A graduate of the Moscow State University for the Humanities, Kirill holds a degree in World Literature and History. His main interest lies in the field of literary and scientific translation. Coming from a family of literary translators, Kirill excelled as a professional English-Russian-English translator, editor and interpreter for various educational institutions, publishers and businesses. His thorough knowledge of world history and cultures, along with superior communication skills, have enabled Kirill to build on his experience and successfully manage translation/interpreting projects worldwide.
Kirill believes that efficient and result-focused project management is key to building productive long-term relationships with clients. He brings a can-do attitude and customer focus to the Language Connections team. Kirill is a native Russian speaker, fluent in English, with basic Spanish skills and a working knowledge of Latin.
Senior Account Manager
Maria joined Language Connections as a Senior Interpreting Project Manager in 2013. A seasoned industry professional, she has outstanding expertise in both interpreting and translation.
Maria holds a Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics and a Master’s degree in Science of Translation and Interpretation. She is a native Russian speaker, fluent in English, and has a basic knowledge of German and Latin. She has excellent communication and management skills, vast experience in cross-cultural interaction, and a take-charge personality. Possessing these skills has allowed Maria to successfully manage a number of complex interpreting projects for the company’s strategic clients.
Director of Pharmaceutical and Biotech Research
Karen’s expertise in biotechnology and life sciences, combined with her keen interest in languages and culture, make her an invaluable member of the Language Connections team. Born in the US and raised in Greece, Karen earned her undergraduate degree at Boston University, where she studied biology and Spanish literature. She went on to complete an MS at the Medical College of Pennsylvania, where her research focused on vaccination against the dengue virus.
While pursuing a career in microbiology, Karen actively engaged in translation and language instruction. Combining these skills with her experience as a translator and educator, Karen keeps her department up to date on developments in biotechnology and the pharmaceutical industry. The in-depth knowledge she contributes has made Language Connections a top competitor when it comes to translation of clinical trials and pharmaceutical documents.
